Has God rejected me too? Exploring God’s perspective

No matter how hard we try to do the “right” thing and live these great Christian lives, we face rejection. Its sting often brings with it condemnation, shame, and a whole lot of pain which many of us internalize. We start to see ourselves as “not good enough” or deserving of the bad things life throws our way.

A vicious cycle of self-doubt and self-hatred often follows. Sadly, it doesn’t stop there. That feeling of being rejected can be so painful, we project it onto God. You and I can wake up every morning, look in the mirror and silently ask ourselves the question “Has God rejected me too?”.

In that moment, we forget who God really is and who we really are. We reduce our Great Living Mighty God down to our human size (in my case 5’3″…not that big huh?). Now God is limited in not only power but love and acceptance.

Who has the real god become? God or you?

Truthfully, I’m asking myself this hard question too because I am guilty of projecting my own rejection of myself onto God. I too have regularly reduced him to my size and standards making him a really powerless and tiny God. But this is a lie spun out of pain and the pit of hell (to put it frankly).

If my God is as small as me…well…he’d not be able to create the beautiful sunsets and sunrises or turn my boys’ laughter into music which brightens up any cloudy day. This supposed tiny God that rejection has brought in front of my eyes couldn’t possibly have kept my marriage going after my Christian husband became agnostic. (You can read about that here) No.

Has God rejected me too?

No.

Does a famous artist reject his own masterpiece? or would a celebrity singer disown their platinum hit song?Has God rejected me too

Of course not. That masterpiece art and popular song are bringing the artist and singer glory.

Rejection tries to steal God’s glory

God would not give His glory to anyone (Isaiah 42:8). He wants you, His masterpiece, to bring Him glory every single day of your life. Yes, you and I have been and will continue to face rejection. But….we’ll face it with God by our side.

God created you and me to find complete acceptance and approval only in relationship with Him. The more we spend time with Him, the more we find ourselves – passion, purpose, value, and worth. We see His kindness, goodness, mercy, fierce love, and justice all of which are totally different to what religion tells us. Yet, we love him more and more.

The love of God and for Him is what heals the areas of rejection in our hearts. It’s His love which gives us the strength and courage to push on no matter the adversity. We persevere towards victory because the moment we get that victory we move into new authority and territory to face new giants and battles and….you guessed it….rejection.

So, Has God rejected me too?

No.

He embraces you. This incredible Father says to you “They rejected me the moment they rejected you. I see you. I know you. You are worth far more than diamonds and precious jewels. I defend you. I will turn this around for my glory and you will stand on this rejection as a stepping stone towards your destiny. You are an overcomer and a conqueror. Step into my joy and my rest. I chose you before the foundations of the earth for such a time as this. I accept and approve of you right now and forever.

Be blessed, beloved one.
